Professional tour guides greet visitors to Hoover Dam, a major source of hydro-electric power for the West Coast. The guides are positioned at strategic points around the dam to provide in-depth information about the history, construction, and the contribution of the scientific wonder of the world to the western United States. However, tours that allow access to the interior of the dam have been suspended indefinitely. Currently the new Discovery Tour gives visitors access to the new $165 million visitor center, including indoor and outdoor observation decks, all exhibits and a 25-minute film about construction of Hoover Dam. The cost per person is $10 with discounts for seniors, juniors, military personnel and their dependents and young children.
