MAGICAL EMPIRE
On June 18, 1996, Caesars Palace opened Caesars
Magical Empire, an elaborately themed, multi-chambered dining and magical wonderland that
presents mystery, fine dining, grand-scale illusions and delightful fun in awe-inspiring
surroundings reminiscent of Caesar's world 2,000 years ago. The facility features 10
dining chambers of the gods, Catacomb Maze, Sultan's Palace theatre, Secret Pagoda
theatre, Grotto Bar, Spirit Bar, Forbidden Crypt, Sanctum Secorum rotunda and Caesars
Magical Empire store.
Joining such Caesars Palace entertainment staples as
superstar headliners, championship sporting events, Omnimax® movies, and the ornate
shopping street The Forum Shops at Caesars, Caesars Magical Empire is designed to be a
regal realm for master soothsayers, elaborately themed and expertly executed.
The Caesars Magical Empire adventure begins at the
Celestial Court. an ornate box office at the center of a Roman foyer just inside a
32-foot-high gabled pediment located between the resort's Palatium Buffet and Olympiad
Race Book. Imported marble flooring, inspired by a pattern in Nero's Palace in Rome, leads
to the Celestial Clock, which announces that guests may enter the Chamber of Destiny.
There, visitors experience an environmental illusion that transports them into a
mysterious catacomb maze.
A Caesars Magical Empire centurion greets guests in
the catacombs and guides them to one of 10 dining chambers (each seating 24 people and
each named for a Roman god). While enjoying a three-course feast, guests are entertained
by a wizard. Nowhere in the Caesars Magical Empire are things always as they seem. During
dinner service and throughout the entire facility, mysterious happenings amaze and
delight.
After the feasting is completed, visitors are guided
through the misty catacombs to the Sanctum Secorum -- a vast, seven-story-high magical
realm. Visitors are cautioned to beware the broken bridge and bottomless pits while moving
about.
Flanking the Sanctum Secorum are two relaxing, if
not always predictable. beverage lounges -- adult retreats for spirited libation. The
Grotto Bar nestles in a dragon's mouth cave, where guests are entertained by an invisible
pianist, who plays requests. Nearby are a pair of wisecracking skeletons, Habeus and
Corpus. Above the Grotto Bar, the casino's central people mover carries unsuspecting Las
Vegas Boulevard pedestrians by tile dragon's eyes for a glimpse of the rotunda display. At
the opposite side of the Sanctum Secorum is the Spirit Bar. The Spirit Bar is haunted by a
mysterious poltergeist, Maximus Maven (looking very much like world renowned mentalist Max
Maven) who enjoys spooking unwary guests with interactive magical wonders. Beverages at
the bars are sold separately.
Highlighting the experience are two
live-entertainment theatres that spotlight the talents of masterful magicians. Shows
emphasize audience participation in an opulent, but relatively intimate setting, so that
guests may join in the fun.
The Secret Pagoda presents masters of close-up magic
in a 72-seat theatre. Each show lasts 18 minutes, with performances every 25 minutes -- 16
shows per day, commencing at 6:15 p.m. The Sultan's Palace theatre seats 144 persons for a
35-minute stage performance, with shows every 50 minutes - 8 shows per day, commencing at
7:10 p.m.
After guests have sampled all the wonders of
Caessars Magical Empire, they pas through the Infinity Hallway. where the spirit of
Ceronomus bids them farewell, a final phantasm transporting visitors back to reality.
At the exit is Caesars Magical Empire store, a
boutique of magical games and treasures that offers the opportunity to purchase a bit of
magic to take home.
Caesars Magical Empire is owned and operated by
Caesars Palace. Milt Larsen, who founded the Magic Castle in Hollywood, Calif., served as
