The "Race For Atlantis" is the world's first giant-screen IMAX 3D motion simulator ride. Located in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, the ride is a teeth-rattling, hair-raising, adrenaline-pumping, computer-animated chariot race through the legendary kingdom of Atlantis.
Passengers are chosen by the gods to race against a fierce field of competitors - including Neptune, the reigning monarch, and Ghastlius, champion of evil - in a flight to the finish that will determine the ruler of Atlantis for the next millennium. Launched into action by a huge catapult, "Race For Atlantis" riders dodge evil villains, fantastic obstacles, and crashing competitors as 3D computer-animated visuals take them careening through beautiful vistas and plunging deep into the sea.
Passengers are strapped into sophisticated motion simulators that thrust them six degrees in any direction. Each guest is provided an E3D electronic headset equipped with the IMAX Personal Sound Environment system and liquid crystal shutters that synchronize with IMAX's proprietary 3D projection technology.
Its story line was inspired by the ancient myth that is reenacted hourly in the shopping center's nearby Atlantis animatronic statues show - a popular attraction for Las Vegas visitors.
Inside the "Race For Atlantis," an 80-foot ceiling dwarfs a gargantuan 30-foot statue of Neptune battling a sea dragon. Walkways suspended over a 6,000-square-foot pool of sound and visual effects lead guests to an entertaining video introduction to the four-and-a-half-minute ride. The "Race For Atlantis" ride chamber houses an 82-foot-diameter IMAX Dome and four 27-passenger motion simulator bases, accommodating up to 1,000 riders per hour.
There is no age restriction, but riders must be at least 42 inches tall. The ride is not recommended for guests with neck or back injuries, persons with heart problems, pregnant women or those who are prone to seizures. The ride requires upper body strength/control.
Tickets are available for same-day purchase (no advance reservations) at Caesars Palace box offices and at the "Race For Atlantis" box office.
