Gambling at the Gold Spike should be included in everyone's Las Vegas experience. This small, dingy casino is infamous for its label as the quintessential "grind joint", or casino that caters to low rollers. The Gold Spike attracts a crowd with its very low table limits and penny slots. That's right - penny slots. If you were to gamble solely with the change lying between the cushions of your sofa, you could still be at the slots for days. The hotel offers 110 fairly appointed guest rooms at reasonable rates. The rooms include private bath and shower, color TV, air conditioning, and heat. Hanging out in the Gold Spike can be fun simply due to the off-beat décor and clientele to match. It feels like a high-school party in your friend's basement. There's `70s shag carpeting and wood paneling all over the place, making it interesting. The clientele is a mix of locals, curious tourists, fans of kitsch, and genuine cheapskates. Don't leave without trying the best 49-cent shrimp cocktail you've ever had.
